Amma Therapy

Amma, which means “push-pull” in Chinese, is an ancient bodywork healing art. Together with acupuncture and herbalism it forms the foundation of traditional Chinese medicine. Tina Sohn learned Amma in Korea at her grandmother’s knee and later developed it into Amma therapy, a revolutionary form of wholistic bodywork. Amma therapy incorporates elements of acupuncture, herbalism, diet, and exercise to restore, promote, and maintain the movement of Qi (life energy) within the body. The techniques used in Amma therapy focus on balancing the musculoskeletal system and promoting the proper circulation of Qi, Blood, and Fluids, which regulate all the physiological processes of the body. Key to Amma therapy is the strength and sensitivity of the practitioner’s hands, which manipulate Qi within the patient to restore the balance of energies essential for good health and disease prevention.

In Amma Therapy, the student of Oriental bodywork will find:

• Descriptions and diagrams of the Primary Qi Channels, the Tendino-Muscle Channels, and the Cutaneous Regions, all explained in Western anatomical terms.
• A comprehensive discussion of Oriental physiology as it relates to the Yin /Yang pairs of organs and their pertaining channels
• Thorough explanations of the tongue and pulse diagnostic techniques
• Powerful new points (loci) discovered by Tina Sohn
• A step-by-step illustrated guide to the entire Amma therapy treatment
• Treatment protocols for ten common conditions, including lower back pain, hypertension, and premenstrual syndrome.

With sections devoted to the philosophy behind Amma therapy, the principles of Oriental medicine, the development of an Amma therapist, and instructions for treating specific symptoms, Amma Therapy is the comprehensive textbook all students of Oriental bodywork need as they develop their healing practices.
