Fundamentals of Yoga can be a valuable resource for those seeking to find their true self in the context of daily living. I am, therefore, happy to recommend the book as a guide to the true perspective and practices of Yoga:’ From the Foreword by John White

A classic in its field, Fundamentals of Yoga is one of the most understand-able and authoritative books ever written on the science and practice of Yoga. A medical doctor trained in both the United States and his native India, Rammurti S. Mishra approaches Yoga as a scientific and methodical means of obtaining spiritual freedom through a perfect control of the body, mind, and will. His thirty-five years of instructing Yoga students from around the world give Dr Mishra the unique ability to explain Yoga in a clear, practical way that is simple for Westerners to grasp, without oversimplifying or undermining its Eastern origins. Fundamentals of Yoga is a handbook for the serious beginner or experienced Yogi who sees Yoga as what it is meant to be: a system for total development—physically, mentally and spiritually. It explains simply the science of Yoga and is a how-to on its practice, with thirty step-by-step lessons on using Yoga to control your physical and mental states. This edition has been expanded to include sixty-six illustrations of Yoga postures, a foreword by John White, and a new preface by the author.

“In Fundamentals of Yoga, Dr Mishra introduces Yoga philosophy by teaching the concrete practices of Yoga; this serves to inspire as well as to inform the novice and the expert practitioner.” Judith Lasater Contributing Editor, Yoga Journal

“I hope that many people will have the opportunity to read this book and gain from it insights into life that are ancient and yet as fresh and meaningful today as they were thousands of years ago”.
