Songs of Krishna

Krishna, one of the major gods of Hinduism, has been the centre of a richly varied system of religious beliefs for more than 2000 years. No figure in folklore or religion has presented such baffling contradictions nor inspired so vast a wealth of art objects as Krishna. Krishna, the cowherd of Braj, ruled supreme not only as the lord and lover of Radha, the beautiful herd-girl, but as the imperial sovereign over the human, animal and vegetable worlds. His flute enchanted all.

SONGS OF is a collection of poems written throughout the centuries and includes the works of Jayadeva, Vidyapati, Chandidas, and Princess Mirabai, among others. Through all of them, the themes of love and violence, laughter and color, food and drink, song and dance interweave to form a sensuous, vivid picture of the living spirit of Krishna, the fount of all sacred and profane love.
